DJRuckus, DJ C-Sick, and DJ Contakt mix from WNYU's Grime Machine.

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting the 517 Boyz crew in NYC, and got a chance to play a set of good new music with C-Sick and Contakt from Turrbotax crew on WNYU's Grime Machine.  Thanks to Hirshi and Phlembot for allowing us to take over the studio for a couple hours and putting up with our silliness.  The mix turned out great.  Let me know what you think.

Police Murder Oscar Grant. Involuntary Manslaughter? Wtf!!!

By now i hope most of ya'll are aware of Oscar Grant, who was murdered by Police in Oakland, California.  He was handcuffed and on the ground when Officer Mehserle shot and killed him on the subway platform in front of hundreds of people.  Many people videotaped the incident on their phone.  Officer Mehserle was in court this month, and he was found guilty of "involvuntary manslaughter".  anyone who has seen the video must be outraged by this verdict and the continued unaccountability of the so-called justice system to Black and Brown people in the U.S.  Remember Oscar Grant, Amadiou Diallo, Sean Bell, and the millions of other victims of the racist police.  Just wanted to present ya'll with some links on the background to this incident, some discussion, and some response to the verdict, in the interest of increasing the push to organize and build an alternative to this oppressive system.  Thanks to Becca from Bring The Ruckus for providing many of the links.

Protest Racist Anti-Immigrant Arizona Law SB 1070 in Detroit Today!

Boycott & Protest Arizona Diamondbacks

Tigers v. Diamondbacks

Comerica Park – West Entrance

Friday, June 18, 5:30 PM

Game starts at 7:05 PM

On April 23rd, 2010, the governor of Arizona signed into law SB 1070, a law that legalizes racial profiling and criminalizes undocumented people as “trespassers”. The law makes it a crime to be without your passport, green card, visa, or state I.D.
Since the bill's signing, a call has emanated from concerned people in Arizona to boycott the State.  Organizations are canceling planned conventions in Arizona and protests are occurring at the Arizona
Diamondbacks games around the country.  The Arizona Latino/a and immigrant communities have called for “a targeted boycott on corporations that have funded the campaign to further repress our community... A targeted boycott should be launched immediately to show the economic power of our community, and we can participate right in our own communities.  Boycott the Arizona Diamondbacks NOW! “
Why the Diamondbacks?
The Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the top contributors to the Republican Party in Arizona, which forced the passage of the racist, anti-immigrant SB 1070.  Republicans voted unanimously to pass the bill.
As sports columnist Dave Zirin wrote,” If the owners of the Diamondbacks want to underwrite an ugly edge of bigotry, we should raise our collective sporting fists against them. A boycott is also an expression of solidarity with Diamondback players such as Juan Guitterez, Gerardo Parra, and Rodrigo Lopez. They shouldn't be put in a position where they're cheered on the playing field and then asked for their papers when the uniform comes off. “
Join us in protesting the racist, anti-immigrant bill, recently passed in the state of Arizona and the introduction of similar repressive legislation in Michigan.
Sponsors: Michigan Emergency Committee Against War and Injustice (MECAWI), Latinos Unidos de Michigan, Moratorium NOW! Coalition to Stop Foreclosures, Evictions and Utility Shutoffs, Solidarity and Defense, FIST-Detroit.

Island Thursdays at The Post - Still Going Strong!

Island Thursdays at The Post in East Lansing are still going strong this summer.  Here are some photos Juan Beltran took a couple weeks ago.  They been bulling and charging cover when it gets busy, so come early if you want to avoid that.  Drinks specials are still dangerous and the music is as well.

Old School Dance Classics Mix

So I got an offer to do an 70's 80's and 90's night at a club in Grand Rapids, and this is the demo i created for the night.  I didn't end up getting it,  I'm assuming this is due to not playing "Oh Micky" and Huey Lewis and the News, etc.  The mix is a bit cornier than i would make for myself, but it is still almost all great tracks.  I hope you enjoy.  Let me know what you think.

Rest In Peace - Guru of Gang Starr - DJ Ruckus Tribute Mix

A couple hours before i heard Guru passed away, I had just got my turntables set up at home and had been flipping thru all my Gang Starr tracks, doubling up all the Premier beats.  It was mad saddening to hear shortly thereafter that Guru had died.  Guru came thru with a unique voice, and consistently kicked something that meaned somethin.  I whipped up a quick tribute mix in his honor with a lot of classics and some of my favorites.  He will be missed dearly.

Red Cedar Ransom 2 - BBoy Event.

This past Saturday i was blessed to dj at Red Cedar Ransom on MSU's campus. This is a yearly B-Boy/B-Girl Event put on by MSU Breakdance Club, a tradition that started last year.  This years event was massive.  Innovative B-Boys, Othello rocked the mic, DJ Franco De Leon killed it, i was mad impressed.  I got to play a few records as well.  Check the little dude out in this video (taken from my phone, unfortuneately):

Thanks to everyone that came out to support probably my favorite element of hip-hop culture outside of djing. Shout out to DJ Adi-8 and the M.I.A. crew, all the MSU B-Boys and B-Girls, and to Self-Xplanatory for rockin out and taking home $1000.
